What are Veneers?Veneers have grown immensely popular over the past 30 years. This can be attributed, in part, to the Hollywood elite letting the general public in on one of their secrets. When the public found out the majority of movie stars were not born with perfect teeth and silver screen smiles, they demanded access to the same procedures. They wanted to have perfectly aligned smiles and straight teeth too. Having veneers placed is one of the most affordable procedures available today. It is pain-free and minimally invasive. Made of thin slivers of porcelain, veneers are placed on the face of the tooth and secured in place with adhesive. It improves the overall appearance of the teeth and the patient’s smile. Veneers offer various options with regard to size, shape, and tint. They can be made to look just like the patient’s natural teeth. The other great thing about veneers is they can be applied to a single tooth or multiple teeth. Patients who are concerned about their smiles and want to improve their appearance can do so by having veneers placed. Any patient with questions should come to our Artistic Dental office. PreparationThe process for getting veneers is quite simple and straightforward. The top layer of enamel is scraped from the tooth to make room for the additional material making up the veneer. The amount of enamel removed is thinner than a fingernail’s width. It has to be done, however, to ensure once the veneer is placed that the patient’s bite motion remains normal. Patients will just need a local anesthetic to stay comfortable and relaxed during the surgical procedure. Once the tooth is prepared, our staff will make molds to demonstrate to the patient how their teeth will look once the procedure is completed. Veneer Placement Recovery PeriodTwo office visits are necessary to properly place veneers. The first appointment involves the preparation of the oral cavity. The teeth are cleaned and the outer layer of enamel is removed to make enough room for the width of the veneers. The veneers are tinted and shaped appropriately so they match the patient’s teeth. It is important for patients to realize once the veneers are placed, there is not a lot that can be adjusted. That is why patients need to carefully examine the molds we provide, so they can make any adjustments to how their teeth will look. After veneers are placed, it is important patients watch what they eat, so they can fully adhere. Chewing ice or eating hard vegetables is not recommended. It may break off a portion of the veneer and require additional procedures to correct.
